Start with the printer, not just the label price
Identify whether your machine supports direct thermal printing, thermal transfer printing, or both. Check the permitted media width, roll outer diameter, inner core diameter and sensor type. A correctly sized sticker can still be incompatible with a specific printer if the overall roll does not fit.
Measure the individual sticker
Specify the label width across the backing liner and the label height in the feed direction, both in millimetres. A 50 × 25 mm label refers to one sticker: 50 mm across and 25 mm along the print direction. Do not confuse the total web width with an individual label width.
Understand 1-Up, 2-Up and 3-Up
The number of ups is how many individual stickers sit side by side across each row of the carrier liner. Two 50 mm labels in a 2-Up layout normally need more than 100 mm of total web width once spacing and margins are included. Check the actual printable width before ordering.
Choose a material for the job
Direct thermal labels can suit short-term applications such as many shipping jobs. Thermal transfer stocks are used with matching ribbons for a broader range of applications. Synthetic options such as polypropylene or polyester may be appropriate where handling, moisture or durability matter, subject to material specifications.
What to send for a useful quotation
Share your printer make and model, individual label width and height, ups, material, core size, approximate quantity per roll and intended application. Ask for the price, stock, dispatch terms and delivery availability to your location rather than assuming a single specification fits every printer.
